Not just rockets & robots...
"Science Fiction" means—to us—everything found in the science fiction section of a bookstore, or at a science fiction convention, or amongst the winners of the Hugo awards given by the World Science Fiction Society. This includes the genres of science fiction (or sci-fi), fantasy, slipstream, alternative history, and even stories with lighter speculative elements. We hope you enjoy the broad range that SF has to offer.

Subject: weird watch
Hey, guys. I picked up an old-fashioned, gold pocket watch in Chicago, and I desperately need help from anyone who understands it. The mechanism is kind of complicated with a lot of dials and knobs, and it does some weird stuff. I'd be happy to trade the watch to anyone who can help me figure out how it works. After I get back home, it's yours. I want nothing more to do with this thing! Use the reply to sender and I'll get the message. Thanks.

Author Comments

I get a lot of ideas late at night while drifting off to sleep. In the light of day, most of those ideas fade away but this one stuck with me. The first draft came together quickly, but a number of additional drafts followed. Finding the right words to tell a story this short was a challenge. My writing group provided valuable suggestions on polishing the prose and adding some additional sources for the messages.
