Not just rockets & robots...
"Science Fiction" means—to us—everything found in the science fiction section of a bookstore, or at a science fiction convention, or amongst the winners of the Hugo awards given by the World Science Fiction Society. This includes the genres of science fiction (or sci-fi), fantasy, slipstream, alternative history, and even stories with lighter speculative elements. We hope you enjoy the broad range that SF has to offer.

Clickbait for Paranormals: Did You Grow Up with a Bloodsucker?

Sarina Dorie is the author of award-winning, YA paranormal romance novel, Silent Moon. Her Puritan and alien love story, Dawn of the Morning Star, is due to come this year with Wolfsinger Publications. She has sold over 80 short stories to markets like Daily Science Fiction, Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Orson Scott Card's IGMS, Cosmos, and Sword and Laser. By day, Sarina is a public school art teacher, artist, belly dance performer and instructor, copy editor, fashion designer, event organizer, and probably a few other things. By night, she writes. As you might imagine, this leaves little time for sleep. You can find info about her short stories and novels on her website: sarinadorie.com.

Vamp-Anon is for families, relatives, and friends whose lives have been affected by someone else's drinking blood. If someone close to you, such as a family member, friend, co-worker, or neighbor, has or has had a problem drinking blood, the following questions may help you determine if Vamp-Anon is for you.
1. Do you constantly seek approval and affirmation that your blood tastes delicious?
2. Do you isolate yourself from other living people, and walk alone at night in graveyards?
3. Have you had problems with your own compulsive behavior, like eating spiders?
4. Do you have a need for perfection: keeping the fingernails perfectly groomed, growing hair long and healthy, and exercising obsessively in case you are bitten and turned at any time?
5. Are you uneasy when your life is going smoothly, continually anticipating someone might bite you?
6. Do you feel more alive when enslaved by a vampire master?
7. Do you respond with excitement to mysterious strangers who turn into bats, wolves, or mist?
8. Do you find it difficult to identify and express your emotions when a wooden stake isn't involved?
9. Do you have trouble with intimate relationships if coffins aren't included?
10. Do you attract and/or seek out people who tend to be nocturnal, pale, and have blood breath?
You might think that being a vampire is a disease that only affects those infected. The reality is that vampirism is a family disease that affects all who come in contact with a vampire. Those of us who have lived with the disease as children sometimes have problems, which the Vamp-Anon program can help us resolve. If you have answered yes to any of the above questions, Vamp-Anon may provide the support you need.

Author Comments

I was visiting someone in a rehab clinic and found a pamphlet that was titled, "Did You Grow Up with an Alcoholic?" As I was waiting, I changed all the words from alcoholic to vampire and alcohol to blood. Someone has probably found that pamphlet by now.
